Motum's elevator technicians impressed at the Swedish National Skills Competition – Pontus Wester took home the bronze

This year’s edition of the Swedish Skills Championships at Kistamässan in Stockholm was a huge success for Motum and the elevator industry. Our elevator technicians Pontus Wester and Vincent Andersson from Örebro participated in Sweden’s largest vocational skills competition and both delivered impressive performances throughout the event.

After several intense rounds of competition, Pontus Wester also took home a strong third-place finish in the final and secured the bronze medal at the 2026 Swedish National Skills Competition.

“It felt like a really big deal. I’m proud to represent both Motum and the profession,” says Pontus Wester.

Sweden’s Largest Vocational Skills Competition For those unfamiliar with the Swedish National Vocational Skills Competition, it is Sweden’s largest vocational skills competition, where young talents from across the country compete in their respective fields. The elevator industry is one of the participating sectors, and the competition events reflect the wide-ranging and technically advanced work that elevator technicians perform every day.

Participants are tested on troubleshooting, installation, safety checks, and problem-solving—tasks that require both technical precision and the ability to work methodically under pressure. Pontus and Vincent demonstrated technical skill, problem-solving ability, composure, and a strong safety mindset throughout the competition.

“I was nervous at first, but I had to try to block out everything around me and focus on one thing at a time,” says Pontus.

By participating in the Swedish National Skills Competition, the elevator industry has the opportunity to showcase how modern, vital, and forward-looking the industry is—while also introducing more young people to the profession of elevator technician.

Motum Academy trains the elevator technicians of the future Pontus and Vincent have completed Motum’s elevator technician training program through Motum Academy, where classroom instruction is combined with hands-on work in the field right from the start. The program is designed to meet the industry’s significant need for trained elevator technicians and gives participants the opportunity to develop both practically and technically alongside experienced colleagues in the field.

“The best part is that you get to put what you’ve learned to the test right away in real-life situations. That helps you develop faster and understand how everything fits together,” says Pontus.

The work of a lift technician is varied and combines technology, problem-solving, safety, and customer interaction—something that is also reflected in the training program at Motum Academy, where participants engage in both hands-on and technical work right from the start.

“Many people probably just think of ‘repairing elevators,’ but it’s much more than that. It’s very technical and requires a lot of problem-solving,” says Pontus.

We are incredibly proud of Pontus and Vincent’s achievements at the Swedish National Skills Competition and of being part of their journey in the elevator industry. Through Motum Academy, we aim to continue training and developing the elevator technicians of the future, while also helping to open the eyes of more young people to a modern, technical, and varied profession with great opportunities.
