Håkan Jakobsson, Technical Materials Buyer for Essity

Since 2019, Essity has been working with Motum Port to ensure high-quality service and operational reliability across its operations. We met with Håkan Jakobsson, technical materials purchaser, at Essity’s production site in Askersund for a chat.

We’re greeted by a big smile at the front desk, and curious colleagues strolling by in the hallways say hello and stop to ask what we’re filming and photographing. After a cup of coffee and a quick tour, Håkan shows us Essity’s bright and spacious conference room, where we’ll settle in to talk about doors and everything related to them.

Håkan explains that, at a strategic level, the purchasing department has chosen to prioritize local suppliers for non-direct purchases—which was one of the reasons for switching to Motum Port.

Strategic procurement and increased efficiency

In Örebro, Essity’s procurement team consists of five people, three of whom focus on strategy, while the remaining two handle operations under the leadership of a procurement manager. The company has a long and strong tradition of streamlining its processes and, as a result, continuously evaluates suppliers with the aim of improving service and cost efficiency.

Since switching to Motum Port, Håkan reports shorter lead times and faster responses to service requests. He makes it clear that he’s not just saying this because our production team is here filming—it’s actually true!

Local supplier for better collaboration

One of the key factors behind the switch to Motum Port is the company’s policy of prioritizing local suppliers. By partnering with a local provider, the company can ensure prompt service and high availability whenever needed. This has resulted in a more flexible and customized solution for their industrial doors and roll-up doors.

One thing Motum Port has made standard practice is offering its customers direct contact with a knowledgeable technician, even for remote support. As we’ve noticed in our conversations with Håkan and Motum Port, this means that customers feel Motum Port is highly committed to helping them as soon as any questions arise.

The gates are vital to operations; they partition off sections of the production facility, facilitate critical material flows, and ensure safety. They must operate seamlessly, making close collaboration with a reliable and responsive supplier a key factor.

Focus on Safety and Hygiene

Håkan explains that Essity manufactures advanced wound care products, which entails high standards for cleanliness and safety. To service doors in the company’s cleanrooms, technicians must follow strict hygiene protocols, including protective gear and specific procedures. Håkan’s experience is that Motum Port’s service technicians have adapted well to these requirements and handle the work in a professional manner.

A reliable partner for the future

When asked whether he would recommend Motum Port, Håkan replied, “Yes, definitely.” During our visit to Essity, we had the privilege of witnessing the strong, mutually beneficial relationship between Essity and Motum Port, which is built on close communication and a high level of commitment from both parties.

Thank you for visiting and for your warm welcome!

New elevator installation – The National Archives in Stockholm

Located on Kungsholmen in Stockholm is the National Archives—one of Sweden’s most historic buildings and home to priceless documents and records from the country’s history. When the building was to be equipped with new elevators, the project proved both technically challenging and logistically complex.

Torbjörn Larsson, Technical Manager at Alfapac in Örebro

We had the privilege of speaking with Torbjörn Larsson, Technical Director at Alfapac, a family-owned plastics company with 90 employees and annual revenue of approximately 270 million Swedish kronor. With three production sites in Åsbro, Kumla, and Billingsfors, Alfapac manufactures roughly 7,000 tons of plastic per year, primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. Torbjörn showed us around the facilities while we discussed the collaboration with Motum Port and delved deeply into what makes it unique.

World Elevator Day, March 23 – A Tribute to the Elevator

The elevator has been a pivotal innovation for both architecture and urban development. From the first safety elevators of the 19th century to today’s energy-efficient and smart elevators, technology has lifted us—literally and figuratively—to new heights. When modern technology meets historic environments, special craftsmanship is required to create solutions that both respect the past and enable the future.

Ole Morten, Property Manager at Tveita Borettslag

We met with Ole Morten, property manager at Tveita Borretslag, which has 819 apartments spread across three large apartment blocks just on the outskirts of Oslo. In addition to the apartments, the association also owns and manages a number of commercial properties. Ole Morten is responsible for and plans the day-to-day operations of the entire association, and oversees the maintenance and operation of the entire housing cooperative. He also serves as a board representative and reports directly to the board. Motum has been a supplier to the housing cooperative since 2020, and we get to tag along on a visit as Ole Morten shows us around.

Vidar Bjerkelund, Operations Manager at OBOS Eiendom

As Operations Manager, Vidar is responsible for everything from elevators and escalators to cleaning and the overall condition of the properties. Everything must function properly in commercial properties—such as office buildings and department stores—which welcome many visitors every day. During our visit to Oslo, we have the pleasure of accompanying Vidar to one of the shopping centers he is responsible for, where Motum AS assisted with the installation and service of both escalators and a goods elevator. Vidar shows us around, cheerfully greets the staff in the stores, and tells us about the high standards required when selecting a service partner for the installation of a new goods elevator for one of the grocery stores.

The collaboration with Roy Jildestål and the Räven Housing Association in Örebro

We had the privilege of sitting down with Roy Jildestål, a resident of BRF Räven since its inception. Roy has been the association’s trusted point of contact with Hisscentralen, which has assisted the association with extensive elevator modernizations since 2016 and currently handles maintenance. We get to take a journey through time, from the association’s founding to the present day, and hear all about the successful collaboration with Hisscentralen and its staff.
