Meet Mikael Olsson, Supervisor at Motum Port

Interview with Mikael Olsson

Micke has extensive experience in the door industry and began his career as a workshop technician in 1998, building doors. Since December 2021, he has been working at Motum Port as a supervisor.

Can you tell us briefly about your background and where your interest in doors comes from?

My interest in doors and mechanics has always been a part of me. In high school, I chose an industry-oriented education and delved into sheet metal and welding. I loved taking things apart, exploring their insides and learning how they worked. That’s what lit the spark that has kept me involved in the industry over the years.

Can you tell us about your current role at Motum Port?

In my role as supervisor at Motum Port, I guide both the team of technicians and our customers. One of the most rewarding parts is helping customers find the perfect door for their unique needs. I believe in going one step further by visiting customers’ locations, carefully analysing their conditions and then sharing my deep knowledge to ensure they get the optimal solution.

What is the biggest challenge in your work today?

There are many challenges, but over the years there has been a lot of focus on sustainability in our doors. This is an area where energy efficiency is of great importance, which is also one of my passions. I am aware of the importance of having the right door to reduce energy consumption. This is why we choose our partners with care to be able to offer the most sustainable door to our customers.

Certification and compliance with regulations and standards, especially regarding CE marking, is something that I always value highly. Motum is more than just a product supplier – we offer peace of mind by staying in line with the highest quality standards.

What are your specific tips for reducing the energy consumption of an automatic door?

Here are some various tips from me:

· If you have a heated garage, a great tip is that instead of having a large opening with a full door, you can have two smaller doors.

· Hold down the opening and you lose less energy.

· Choose the right door for your needs – talk to an expert.

· Compare different suppliers’ U-values to get a fair comparison. The U-value is what indicates the door’s energy efficiency, a lower U-value results in lower energy loss and a better door.

· Today, with skyrocketing electricity prices, everyone knows that energy costs money and a door should stay in place for many years.
